How to use
Choose a PDF and Read metadata shows its document information: title, author, subject, keywords, creator (the application that made the original, such as a word processor), producer (the software that turned it into a PDF), the creation and modification dates, the number of pages and the file size. Fields the file does not contain are shown as Not available.
This information is invisible when you read the document, but anyone who has the file can display it. It often contains a person's name, a company's software or a title from an earlier draft, so it is worth checking before you send or publish a PDF.
Dates are shown in your local time zone. They are written into the file by the software that created it, so they can be missing, wrong or changed later; treat them as a clue, not as proof of when a document was made.
The tool reads the document information dictionary, the standard short record in a PDF. Some files also carry a longer block of metadata in XMP format, which this tool does not display, so a field shown as Not available may still be present there. Reading changes nothing: the file is not modified, and it is not uploaded.

Are my documents uploaded?
No. Reading, editing and creating the output happen locally on this device.
Can I use a password-protected PDF?
No. Unlock the document with an authorised application before using this tool.
Can I edit or remove the metadata here?
No. This tool only reads it. To change the title or author, use the export or document properties options of the application that created the PDF.
Why is the author shown when I never typed it?
Many applications fill it in automatically from the name of the user account or licence that created the document.
